Over het museum

The Musée Auguste-Jacquet is housed in the listed gardens of the château of Beaucaire, former residence of the counts of Toulouse. It occupies the buildings of a convent built around 1870 and has been open to the public since 1985.

The route is thematic. It presents the quarrying of “Beaucaire stone” with the book of the Confrérie de Saint-Marc and the tools of the last stonecutter, then the famous Foire de la Madeleine through posters, engravings from the 17th to the 20th century and models. One room is devoted to the Félibrige, with printed cotton shawls, Arlésienne jewellery, furniture and manuscripts by local félibres.

The archaeological section evokes the pre-Roman period through Gaulish necropolises, then the Gallo-Roman town, a staging post on the Via Domitia, with the dedication to Titus Carisius. Medieval history is illustrated by objects from the excavations of the comital and then royal castle.
