Over het museum

The museum is located in Tarascon, in the Hôtel d’Aiminy at 39 rue Charles Deméry. The site houses the former cotton-printing workshop of the Souleiado house, preserved in its original state with its colour kitchen. The family firm, which claims a history dating back to 1806, thus preserves and passes on a textile craft closely linked to Provençal identity.

The museum’s collection is private. It includes some 50,000 wooden printing blocks, which show the wealth of patterns created by the manufactory and the technical mastery of its craftspeople. The visit also tells the story of the indiennes, printed cotton fabrics in bright colours that have been part of Provence’s textile history since the late 16th century.

An immersive display presents Provençal art objects, textile treasures, patchworks and fashion creations. The house’s archives have inspired designers such as Chantal Thomass, Christian Lacroix and, more recently, Alessandro Michele for Gucci.
