Over het museum
The museum occupies the former municipal school of Trégarvan, at the foot of the Menez-Hom. The last pupils left in 1974. Pierre Morisset, departmental inspector of national education, and Jean-Pierre Gestin, director of the Armorique Regional Natural Park, then launched a museum project. In 1977 a reconstructed classroom opened to the public; the extension on the upper floor was officially inaugurated in 1986. The Finistère department has owned the buildings since 1990, and the museum received Musée de France status in 2002.
A major restructuring project, launched in 2013, led to the inauguration of the “new” museum in 2014. It presents school life from 1910 to the 1970s while questioning the school of today and tomorrow.
The route includes a renovated reception building with a room for temporary exhibitions, two classrooms from the 1910s and 1970s with desks, maps, blackboards and clogs, the teachers' apartments, the playground with its covered walkways, and the “Labotager”, a school garden that has become an experimental vegetable garden.
