Over het museum
Textile production has shaped Larochette since the Middle Ages. Even then, weavers received the privilege from King John the Blind to use four looms instead of just one. Small household businesses grew into factories along the Ernz and the Scheerbach; later, steam power arrived. Weaving peaked between 1870 and 1895, and the last three businesses survived until the European textile crisis between 1970 and 1985.
The Textil Musée Larochette is a joint project of the Municipality of Larochette and the NGO Fairtrade Lëtzebuerg. It was inaugurated on March 7, 2025, and opened to visitors on March 10, 2025. One part of the exhibition, in a historic building near the former railway station, shows old looms, weaving tools, fabrics and original machines from the local textile industry, explained through videos and interactive terminals. The second part belongs to the “Rethink Your Clothes” campaign and addresses fast fashion, its consequences for workers and the environment, and fair and sustainable alternatives.
