Over het museum

The museum occupies the Casa Ferraro, built in 1784 by a family of Italian origin engaged in the wool and silk trade in Valencia. It is the only 18th-century civil building of any architectural importance in Manises. After the Ferraro-Causa family, the penultimate owner was the physician José Sanchis Pertegás, who became mayor of Valencia at the end of the 19th century. In 1976 the Casanova Dalfó-Sanchis Causa family bequeathed the property to the municipality to set up a municipal museum.

In 1985 the building was extended with a new wing at the rear, and what survived of the original construction was restored. Stairs and ramps around a central void, topped by a translucent vault, link both parts. An upward spiral route connects the rooms, where productions of local workshops from the 14th to the 20th century are displayed.

Among the features of the building is a late-15th-century Gothic doorway from the palace of Mosén Sorell in Valencia, which was saved from a fire and from demolition and was installed by Sanchis Pertegás. The façade retains Valencian tiles from the second half of the 18th century and a panel from the end of the same century depicting the Holy Trinity.
