Over het museum
The Museu del Perfum opened in mid-1963 on the Passeig de Gràcia, inside the Perfumería Regia, with the aim of showing how perfume bottles and containers have evolved over time and across different cultures. It depends on the Fundació Planas Giralt, and the texts on the history of perfume presented on its website are the work of Ramon Planas Buera.
The collection brings together more than 5,000 pieces: old and modern bottles, miniatures, catalogues, labels and antique advertising material. The route has a historical part, running from prehistory to French commercial perfumery and passing through Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, the Islamic world and the Renaissance, and a part devoted to industrial perfumery from the second half of the 18th century, arranged by brand.
Perfumería Regia closed its shop on the Passeig de Gràcia on 31 January 2025, and since then the museum has remained closed until a new location is found. In the meantime its website offers a virtual visit.
