Over het museum

The Arboretum Nový Dvůr was established in 1958 in a former château park, which was among the most valuable dendrological parks in Silesia. Its foundation was laid by the estate owner Quido Riedel, who created a landscape park here in 1906–1928 with about 500 species and cultivars of trees and shrubs. In 1958 the Slezské zemské muzeum took over the park and began restoring it; a dendrological exhibition was opened to the public as early as 1959.

In 1965–1969 an entrance area with a car park, an exhibition pavilion and operational facilities were added, and the park was gradually expanded to today’s 23 ha. The dendrological exhibition “Woody Plants of the Five Continents” is divided into geographical units; it includes, for example, a peat bog, a heath, sand dunes and a large collection of rhododendrons. The greenhouse display of tropical and subtropical plants, covering about 220 m², opened in 2010.

The pseudo-Renaissance château was built after 1862 for Baron Antonín Luft. After its reconstruction, the château opened to the public for the first time in June 2026 with a new museum exhibition, “Quido. The Story of the Arboretum in Nový Dvůr”, which tells of the founder of the park, the history of the arboretum and the château itself.

• Skleníková expozice tropických a subtropických rostlin – About 220 m² of greenhouses with almost 115 genera of plants from 63 families, from the tropical and subtropical regions of all continents.

Children under 6 and holders of AMG and ICOM cards, among others, enter free; for school classes, one adult goes free per ten children. Photography for private purposes is free; wedding and social-event photography with a photographer costs CZK 500. Admission to the château is charged separately. Dogs (except guide dogs) are not allowed in the grounds.

Access to part of the park, the exhibition pavilion and the greenhouse display is step-free; the dendrological exhibition is only partly accessible. The château entrance has no steps, but inside there is no lift or platform to overcome the stairs. A reserved parking space is in the central car park; information is available from the arboretum ticket office (tel. +420 733 739 173).
