Over het museum
The Imaginárium břidlice is a mini-exhibition in one room of the Bílá Holubice recreation centre in Mokřinky near Moravice in the Opava region. It deals with the history of slate mining at the Zálužné site near Vítkov, where slate was mined in the Petr mine, and also with the processing of slate, roofing slate and the life of miners.
The unusual experience is conveyed by large-scale photographs, videos, period exhibits and original sounds recorded in the last working slate mine in the Czech Republic before its closure. The exhibition stands on the left bank of the Moravice river in the Vítkov Highlands, in the Moravice nature park, and lies on the route of the Dědictví břidlice nature trail.
Earlier versions of the Imaginárium were created from 2013 in Vítkov in cooperation with the town. The present exhibition was reopened on 14 May 2022 after renovation. It is run by the Jezerní důl association, based in Budišov nad Budišovkou. The Imaginárium is part of the Krajina břidlice area and, since 2024, also of the Technotrasa tourist route.
