Over het museum
The Světelsko Museum has been housed in the château in Světlá nad Sázavou since 2007. It was created by the Světelský vlastivědný spolek (local history society). Together with the colonial shop and the crafts exhibition, it now forms one part of the château tours, which were completed by its author, Pavel Kuře.
The exhibition offers the oldest records of the founding of the town of Světlá nad Sázavou. The display cases hold objects found in the Světelsko area from prehistoric times onwards, and many artefacts recall the long history of the noble families who lived at the château. A substantial part is devoted to crafts typical of the region, especially stonemasonry, glass cutting and Bohemian garnets.
The château has Gothic roots: a fortified manor was built here in 1393 by Štěpán of Šternberk, and it took on its present form mainly in the 19th century under the Salm-Reifferscheidt family. In 2011 it became the property of the town. From 2013 new owners restored it, and from 2022 the Marianov family. The château is open every day all year round, and the complex also includes further tour routes, an orangery, a restaurant and accommodation.
