Over het museum

Čechy pod Kosířem is first mentioned in 1131. In the 14th century a moated Gothic fortress stood here, which fell into decline in the 15th century. In the second half of the 16th century a new Renaissance fortress was built, and between 1708 and 1716 the Liechtensteins rebuilt it as a Baroque four-winged chateau.

From 1768 the estate belonged to the Silva-Tarouca family. In the 1830s František Josef I began transforming the surroundings of the chateau into an English landscape park. The architect Julius Eduard Zernecke gave the chateau its present late Classicist form in 1839–1846. The last major alterations to the exterior and interiors took place in 1904–1906.

The family was friends with the painter Josef Mánes, who visited the chateau and worked there between 1849 and 1871. His paintings and drawings are therefore an important part of the chateau's interiors. In 1942 the estate of the family's last owner was placed under forced administration, and after the war it passed into state hands. Today the chateau is managed by the Olomouc Museum of Regional History, which offers tours of the interiors and the park, as well as several separate exhibitions.

The standard price applies to a chateau tour. Children up to and including 6 years old enter free, as do holders of ICOMOS, ICOM and AMG cards, and leaders of organised groups of more than 20 people. A tour in a foreign language costs CZK 50 per person, and a tour outside opening hours costs CZK 100 per person.
