Over het museum

Boston Manor House was built in 1622 to 1623 for Mary Reade, the widow of William Reade. Its state bedroom and state drawing room keep richly moulded plaster ceilings from that period. The Clitherow family bought the estate in the 1670s and owned it for about 250 years, extending and altering the house.

In 1923 the last private owner sold the house and 20 acres of land to Brentford Urban District Council, and the grounds opened as a public park in 1924. The house was listed Grade I in 1951. Later the house needed major repairs.

A restoration project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund conserved the building, improved access and removed it from the Heritage at Risk Register. The house reopened to the public in July 2023 after a restoration of about five years. Its historic rooms are furnished in 17th, 18th and 19th-century styles based on the best surviving evidence for each room, and the house also contains community exhibition galleries, meeting rooms and a café. It is run by the London Borough of Hounslow's Historic Houses Team with local volunteers.
