Over het museum
Enginuity is a hands-on design and technology centre in Coalbrookdale, in the Ironbridge Gorge. It opened in 2002 and was the last new museum created by the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust before the Trust's museums passed to the National Trust in 2026. It stands close to the Museum of Iron and the other Coalbrookdale industrial sites, linking the area's history of invention with modern engineering.
The exhibition floor was arranged in four zones, Materials and Structures, Systems and Control, Energy, and Design, with a fabrication laboratory. Visitors could test ideas themselves, for example by building bridges or working with robotics and product design. Enginuity also ran workshops for school groups and interactive science shows on themes such as materials, forces and electricity, which were offered to the general public during school holidays.
The National Trust has closed Enginuity while it reviews the exhibits as part of longer-term planning for Ironbridge. It says it wants to be sure that everything is running smoothly and safely before the centre opens again, and it has not announced a reopening date.
