Over het museum
St Andrews Museum is housed in Kinburn House, a Victorian mansion in Kinburn Park built in the 1850s for a retired Indian Medical Service doctor, who named it after a Crimean War battle. In the 1870s it became the home of the town's Provost, and the town council bought the house and park in 1920.
The building was used for several purposes, including as a library and as a telephone exchange during the Second World War, before it opened as a museum in 1991. Fife Council runs the museum today, and OnFife manages the venue and its collections on the council's behalf.
The permanent displays on the ground floor present the history of St Andrews from its beginnings to the present day, using objects from Fife's museum collections. Changing exhibitions are shown in the upstairs gallery.
