Om museet
KLINGSPOOR is a heritage project of the municipality of Sint-Gillis-Waas in De Klinge, close to the Dutch border. The project has been on track since 5 July 2013. At an outdoor site and in an experience centre you can discover four heritage themes: the railway, nature, clogs and the border.
The railway theme is about the Mechelen–Terneuzen line, a private railway founded in 1868 and solemnly opened on 26 August 1871. For more than a hundred years, trains ran through De Klinge. On the site you will find the Old Station, a cross for shareholder Willem D’hanens, a railway milestone, a sundial and an authentic old railway carriage on the renovated platform. In the experience centre there is a model of the former station area.
The Waasland was the largest clog-making centre in the world until 1936; in 1920 De Klinge had fifty clog-makers’ workshops. Remains of this craft can be seen on the site, and the folk group De Klomp provides explanations. The border theme covers smuggling, the electric death wire the Germans installed in 1915, border posts and the kraaienpoot. The nature theme leads to the Waterwinbossen and the Stropersbos.

Heidestraat (De Klinge)
De Lijn bus, lines 21, 22, 23 and 27, to the Heidestraat stop in De Klinge, very close by.
By car, take exit 11 Kemzeke from the E34 and drive towards Hulst until you reach Klingestraat and Buitenstraat. KLINGSPOOR lies between cycle junction node 80 (Waasland) and node 50 (Zeeuws-Vlaanderen), along the cycle and walking path on the old railway bed that runs from Sint-Niklaas to Hulst.
