Om museet
The archaeological museum occupies part of the so-called Temple of Diana, an ancient sanctuary enclosed within the Aix-les-Bains town hall. It is one of the three Roman temples in France that have survived intact. Its dedication remains uncertain: the name Diana dates from the Middle Ages, and the temple may have been dedicated to Borvo, the Celtic god of hot springs.
The collections of the former Lepic museum, founded in 1872, together with an important Gallo-Roman collection of stone monuments, were reinstalled here in 1948. They tell the story of the Roman vicus of Aquae, its organization and some of the families who lived there.
