Om museet
In 1853 the architect Pierre Cuypers built himself a home and studio in Roermond. Here his firm "Cuypers & Stolzenberg" worked, designing neo-Gothic churches and also producing church art, sculptures, stained-glass windows and furnishings.
In 1932 the house was opened as a municipal museum: the occasion was the donation of 25 paintings by the painter Henry Luyten, for which Cuypers' son Joseph designed additional exhibition halls. Princess Juliana performed the opening. Until 2009 the house operated as the Stedelijk Museum Roermond with the city's art collection. After the city decided in 2007 to distribute the collections across several locations, the firm Merkx + Girod converted the house. It reopened as the Cuypershuis on 29 October 2011.
Today the museum focuses on the life and work of Pierre Cuypers and combines architecture with contemporary interior design. The collection comprises objects from Cuypers' family and from the studio, including architectural sketches, drawings, glass negatives, portrait photographs and crafts, as well as furniture and products by present-day designers.

The main entrance is accessible by wheelchair, and a spare wheelchair is available. Because of narrow corridors and steep stairs, not all rooms are accessible; the exhibition hall can be reached via the garden. For large or electric wheelchairs, please call beforehand, as the lift is small. One disabled parking space at the entrance.
