Om museet

The Agrotechnorama shows the development of agricultural technology from horse-drawn power to the tractor, from the flail to the combine harvester and from the scythe to the mowing machine. It is housed in the monastery barn of the former Cistercian convent of Tänikon, on the grounds of the Agroscope research station near Aadorf.

On around 1,800 square meters, the permanent exhibition presents about 750 objects, from small hand tools to a stationary threshing machine weighing four tons. The collection dates from 1813 to 1984 and shows how agriculture changed from manual labor through animal traction to motorization. The exhibition was assembled over countless hours by Rudolf Studer, who also founded the Agrotechnorama support association; according to the Museums Association, it opened in 1981.

The museum has no regular opening hours and opens for groups as part of guided tours. A 93-page exhibition guide presents the most important stages of development by theme, such as traction power, motor mowers or implements for field and farm.
