Om museet
The monastery in Teplá near Mariánské Lázně was traditionally founded in 1193 by the Blessed Hroznata, a Czech nobleman who decided to dedicate his life to God after the death of his wife and son. It is one of the most important ecclesiastical monuments in the country, and since 2008 the complex has been a national cultural monument. For centuries the monastery played an important role in settling and economically developing the surrounding region. It survived the Hussite wars without being directly plundered, but the Thirty Years' War hit it hard.
Its present form was given to it in 1690–1724 by the architect Kryštof Dientzenhofer, who rebuilt the convent and the monastery church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, which is decorated largely in the Baroque style. At the beginning of the 20th century a museum section with an art gallery and a library was added, modelled on the Strahov Library. The monastery library today holds about thirty thousand volumes, including manuscripts and incunabula, and is one of the largest in the Czech Republic.
After the Second World War the monks were expelled, and from 1950 to 1978 the Czechoslovak army used the building and damaged it badly. After 1989 the monastery was returned to the order and is being gradually restored. Today a canonry of Premonstratensians is based here; the complex also contains a hotel and the education centre Hroznata Academy. Visitors can take a tour of the library and museum, or of the prelature and other excursions, for example into the Baroque adit system or the abbot's suite.

- Projekt Trachyt – Permanent exhibition by Munich geologists on the building materials and technologies used in the construction of the monastery buildings; the texts are in the original German with a Czech translation.

Both tour routes have the same admission, payable in cash only. Prices include VAT. The Hroznata Academy excursions to the Teplá abbots and into the tunnels, and the archaeological finds exhibition, are free for holders of the KarlovyVARY REGION CARD tourist card.

The excursion through the Baroque adit system is not suitable for people with mobility problems or for people who feel anxious in dark and confined spaces.

The Hroznata Academy offers children's excursions On the Trail of Knight Hroznata for children aged 4–11 with a play sheet, and an excursion for little adventurers to search for the monastery treasure, as well as creative workshops and educational programmes for schools. Children under 12 enter the main tour free.

Trains run to Teplá from Mariánské Lázně and Karlovy Vary on a single-track line via Teplá, and buses run from Mariánské Lázně or Toužim. Search for connections at jizdnirady.cz.
The monastery lies about 1.5 km south of the town of Teplá and 12 km east of Mariánské Lázně; the approach is by road II/210. The website offers navigation and coordinates for car and bicycle.

| Godt at vide | Tours are led by guides on two routes: the first includes the library and monastery museum, the second the prelature and convent. The second route changes depending on events in the rooms, and on some days it is not available at all. The church is included only when operations allow. Visitors can come to a tour without booking, but may have to wait for the start of the next tour; a reservation lapses if guests do not check in at the ticket office at least 10 minutes before the start.
