Eisenbahnmuseum Dieringhausen
Railway museum in the listed Dieringhausen railway depot with a roundhouse, turntable and historic steam locomotives.
Om museet
In Dieringhausen, now a district of Gummersbach, a small locomotive station was first built on the Aggertalbahn in 1893. As the rail network in the Oberbergisches Land grew, it was expanded by 1905 into a railway depot with a roundhouse – the only centrally located one in the region. It mainly housed Prussian steam locomotives for freight, passenger and shunting service, and from 1941 also standard locomotives of classes 50 and 86. Air raids put the depot out of action at the end of 1944; it was returned to service after the war.
Railbuses arrived from 1956 and V 100 diesel locomotives from 1962; the steam era ended in 1969. After the Bundesbahn abandoned the depot in 1982, railway enthusiasts founded the association "Eisenbahnfreunde Flügelrad Oberberg" and a museum company. The entrepreneur Hermann Haeck bought the site, which had been placed under heritage protection, and supported the building of the vehicle collection for many years.
After Haeck's death in 2008, the museum's future was uncertain for a time. It passed to the Hermann-Haeck-Stiftung, the association renamed itself IG Bw Dieringhausen in 2009 and has since run the museum on a volunteer basis as leaseholder; in the early 2020s, the site was transferred to the Aggerbahn. The collection now focuses on vehicles with a regional connection. Its showpiece is the narrow-gauge-line locomotive "Waldbröl", built in 1914, which has been back in steam since 2008 after decades of restoration; there is also the Prussian T 14 93 230, on loan from the Verkehrsmuseum Dresden and the last surviving example of its class.
