Mühlenmuseum Mäulesmühle
Municipal mill museum in the Siebenmühlental valley with working milling machinery from 1819 – from grain to flour, with an organic restaurant in the same building.
Om museet
The Mäulesmühle stands on the Reichenbach stream in the Siebenmühlental (Seven Mills Valley) near Musberg and is the third of the mills there. A mill on this site is documented as early as 1383. It owes its name to the Maylen family of millers, who ran it in the 17th and 18th centuries; over time, “Maylens Mühle” became the Mäulesmühle.
The present two-story half-timbered building dates from 1819 and celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2019. Milling ended in 1945. The City of Leinfelden-Echterdingen acquired the listed property, had it renovated in the 1980s and set up a museum inside. An organic restaurant with a beer garden occupies the upper floor; the neighboring Komede-Scheuer barn was long a venue for Swabian dialect theater.
The heart of the museum is the fully functional milling machinery from 1819 with three pairs of millstones. The restored equipment shows how grain was turned into flour and conveys the working and living world of a miller in pre-industrial times. Group tours are organized by the city archive and the mill restaurant.
