Om museet
The museum is housed in Aurach’s present-day town hall, a former moated castle and bailiwick that once served as the seat of the Oberamt Wahrberg. Across several floors it shows the history of Aurach and Weinberg.
In the entrance area and stairwell, village ordinances from 1433 and 1500, charters, seals, old maps and archaeological finds take center stage. On the second floor are an altarpiece from the former Weinberg parish church, traditional costumes and photos of local customs. The third floor is the Blumenau Heimatstube: in November 1946, more than 200 expellees from Blumenau in the Schönhengstgau found a new home in Aurach. Documents, photos and religious objects recall their lives before expulsion. The top floor displays farm implements, the carting trade and vanished crafts such as weaving, carpentry, beekeeping or shoemaking.
