About the museum
The Antonischacht was the main hoisting shaft of Bleiberg mining; in 1966 the new “Antoni” shaft hoisting went into operation. When mining ended in 1993, part of the tunnels was preserved for tourism. The Terra Mystica show mines first opened in 1989 at the Rudolfschacht and could not stay there after active mining ended; since 28 July 1995 the Terra Mystica has been located at the Antonischacht.
The site with its headframe, processing plant and mine forge is a listed monument. In 2005 a second show mine, Terra Montana, was added; its construction had begun in 2002 in the area of the Max-Schacht. Both attractions share one entrance: a 68-metre-long miners' slide leads into the interior of the mountain to the station where the routes divide.
In the Terra Mystica visitors walk through seven mining levels (“Zechen”) with multimedia shows, past a water-wheel winding engine rebuilt in 2000 on the model of one from 1831; the mine railway takes you back. The Terra Montana presents mining from 800 BC to the closure in 1993 in 14 stations using original, working machines. Included in the price are the mining museum with 700 years of mining history and the porcelain caricature museum Terra Humoristika.
