About the museum
The local history museum of the market municipality is housed in Schloss Fels, a small single-storey building with two wings around a courtyard and a slender round tower with a conical roof. The site is first mentioned in 1160 with Leopold and Konrad von Velze; its present form dates from the 17th century. The castle belongs to the municipality and also houses a kindergarten, an agricultural vocational school and event rooms.
The museum shows work and household tools of bygone days. Farming, winemaking and the crafts needed for them offer insight into the laborious everyday life of the rural area around the turn of the century; religious objects and items from private households are also on display. The museum's fossil collection contains unique finds.
