About the museum
The Automobilmuseum Stockerau was founded in 1986 by Peter Malek and friends. In 1999 it received its present name in honour of Siegfried Marcus, who drove his second petrol-powered car in Vienna in 1875. Since the founder's death in 2014, his son Philipp Malek has continued to run the museum.
The museum is housed in the former gymnasium in the town centre, a Historicist building with touches of early Art Nouveau. The vehicles stand on the parquet floor and on the dais, while a collection of Puch motorcycles is displayed in the gallery. The focus is on historic and classic automobiles from Austria, Germany, Italy and England.
Every year there is a new special exhibition, often marking anniversaries or significant dates. The programme also includes auctions, book presentations, rallies and brand meetings. The building is also home to the Austrian Siegfried Marcus Research Society, and the museum is regarded as the Austrian home of the TV car K.I.T.T. from "Knight Rider". It is open only in the winter months; in summer the vehicles themselves are out on the road.
