Limited operations. The museum rooms in the "Haus im Grünen" are closed indefinitely for structural reasons; the wagon park on the grounds remains freely accessible.

About the museum

The Kierling Citizens' Association (Kierlinger Bürgerverein), founded in 1984, gave rise to a working group on "Heimatmuseum" (local history museum). In 1985 the municipality of Klosterneuburg acquired the "Haus im Grünen" and made three rooms there available to the working group; the museum opened on September 26, 1987. Five years later the wagon park for large agricultural and commercial equipment was created on the grounds, and in 1999 four pavilions were added.

In 1997 the attic was converted to show the gastronomy collection of longtime Intercontinental head chef Herbert Hüpfel. In the pavilions stands a mobile M1901 field oven from World War I, which according to the museum is the only surviving example in Austria. Since 2008 the museum has been a branch association of the Kierling Citizens' Association; since 2018 it has been called "Universalmuseum Kierling". It is run entirely by volunteers and has held the Austrian Museum Quality Seal (Österreichisches Museumsgütesiegel) since 2002.

The holdings of around 35,000 objects include Austria's largest collection of silhouette cuttings, with works by Josefine and Hans Allmayer, militaria, local history items from the Sommerfrische (summer holiday) era, and equipment from trades, crafts and agriculture. The museum rooms have been closed by the municipality for structural reasons; the wagon park remains accessible.
