About the museum
The museum village began to take shape in 1974 around the Bürgerspital in Krumbach. It was founded in 1571 by Erasmus von Puchheim as a retirement home for twelve servants of the castle and served this purpose until 1910. The cross-shaped complex now houses the local history museum.
The buildings from the region include the “Fuchs’sche Hausstock” from Zöbersdorf, the first house to be erected, which shows a living room, a smoke kitchen and linen processing; a wooden granary with a cider gallery; a mill with a flax stamping mill; and an exhibition barn with a grocery shop that operated until 1985. The late medieval farm building of the Puchheim family, the “Tannbauer”, was dismantled at its original site in 2016, faithfully rebuilt in the museum village and has been open to visitors since spring 2020.
After an introductory film, visitors explore the houses using digital media stations and media guides; the Tannbauer also provides information on building research and reconstruction. The museum village is a project of the market municipality of Krumbach.
