About the museum

The Stadtmuseum Pinkafeld goes back to the Heimathaus founded in 1924 by Pinkafeld resident Josef Karl Homma. It is housed in the so-called Rindsmaulsches Gutshaus (manor house), the former town hall and, according to the museum, the oldest house in town, on Rathausplatz. The museum is run by the Museumsverein Pinkafeld, which also looks after the town archive.

At its core is the city museum section, with fossils from the area, archaeological finds from the Stone Age to the Roman period and charters on the town's rights. One focus is the finds from a Celtic iron-smelting facility at Lamplfeld, which were examined in excavations in 2002 and 2003. They include documents on Pinkafeld's first mention in 860 and on market and court rights.

Over the years further areas were added: the Tuchmachermuseum (Cloth Makers' Museum), opened in 2004, tells of the town's most important trade and displays partly still working weaving and spinning machines. The Feuerwehrmuseum (Fire Brigade Museum), redesigned in 2016, documents the history of the oldest fire brigade in Burgenland. The garrison room recalls the Turba barracks and the troops stationed there, and the church room, designed in 2005, shows the history of the Catholic and Protestant parishes together. Changing special exhibitions and a "Geisterpfad" (ghost trail) through town complete the offer.
