About the museum

Since 1982, a faithfully preserved Troadkasten, a granary that was relocated here from Saalach, has stood next to the Kurhotel Moorbad Neydharting and has served as an open-air museum ever since. It is one of the largest museum buildings of its kind in Upper Austria and consists of two enclosed interior rooms and a large covered outdoor area.

The cosily furnished lower parlour contains a dining table with benches, a historic children’s toilet, household items and tools for processing grain, including a grain mill and threshing flails. On the upper floor are tools for processing flax such as a flax brake, flywheel and hackling bench, as well as old ploughs, a baking trough and baking equipment.

The former locomotive shed, which once housed the steam locomotive “Anna”, now holds larger agricultural machines: a chaff cutter, ladder wagon, hay sleigh, a historic potato harvester and, as its showpiece, a large threshing machine. The grounds also include a gateway reconstructed from original stones of the former Neydharting moated castle and a herb bank created by the cultural association. The museum is run by the Kulturverein Bad Wimsbach-Neydharting.
