About the museum
The Häferlmuseum opened in autumn 2010 in Pierbach on the Mühlviertler Alm. It is located in the village centre in the building of the former primary school, diagonally opposite the church. The idea behind it ties in with the region's inn culture, in which people like to sit together comfortably; a visit can therefore easily be combined with a stop at the village inn.
On display is a collection of Häferl (mugs), coffee and tea sets, arranged by theme, age or personality. Some pieces have a curious or amusing story and are presented in original ways, including a Häferl belonging to the former governor of Upper Austria, Josef Pühringer. A focus is on porcelain and ceramics manufacturers such as Meissen, Wiener Keramik and Gmundner Keramik. Visitors also learn how a Häferl is made and how it came about.
