About the museum

The Haus der Architektur (HDA) was founded in 1988 as a non-profit association to communicate architecture and promote good building culture. It sees itself as a platform for architecture, urban design and spatial planning and as a point of contact for questions of building culture. Until 2007 it resided in a villa in Engelgasse; since 2008 it has been based in the Palais Thinnfeld on Mariahilferstraße near the Kunsthaus; the conversion was carried out by ifau and Jesko Fezer.

The HDA shows changing exhibitions, organises lectures, discussions, symposia and excursions and publishes publications. It administers the Architecture Prize on behalf of the Province of Styria. The programme also includes tours of the current exhibition, the series "Häuser schaun" with visits to completed buildings, and workshops for children.

There is no permanent exhibition: the exhibition space on the ground floor is redesigned with each show. The HDA is a member of national and European architecture networks such as LINA.
