About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Pfunds is housed in a farmhouse whose core dates from the 14th century. It stands near the parish church in the old part of the village and consists of a farm dwelling, a barn built in the Nolpen style and three exhibition rooms. The last residents lived in this part of the house until 1980, and in the hundred years before that nothing was changed structurally; as a result, the house still looks almost as it did then.
The tour leads through the vaulted archway with chests and cupboards into the smoke kitchen with its unusually large baking oven, then into the parlour and the bedroom. In the cellar there are storage rooms and the “Machlkammer” with farming tools, as well as religious devotional objects, including liturgical vessels in miniature form.
The exhibition rooms tell of ore mining, the Tyrolean Wars of Liberation of 1809 and hunting, as well as the crafts and village life of the region. The collection is continually expanded through loans, donations and purchases. The house is run by volunteer museum guides who bring the objects to life with stories.
