About the museum
The Heimathaus is located in the Linzenberg district above Schwarzach, on a hiking trail towards Bildstein-Farnach. The property, also called the Hermann Dür House, is a protected Rhine Valley house with a small-scale farm. Hermann Dür bequeathed it to the municipality of Schwarzach in 1982.
From 1986 the building was renovated in close coordination with the Federal Monuments Office and converted into a local history museum; it opened in June 1991. The municipality of Schwarzach runs the house.
On display are authentically furnished rooms, folk culture objects and above all historic agricultural tools, with larger machinery in the barn. The hay-harness workshop recalls a regional craft, and a schnapps distillery and a cider press are also part of the site. A special focus, the Schlifar Museum, documents whetstone production and the grinding trade, which once defined Schwarzach.
