About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Tarrenz is housed in a farmhouse built in 1734 in the Gurgltal. It opened in 1981 to safeguard the village's remaining cultural heritage. In the parlour, smoke kitchen and bedroom, the farming way of life and work is vividly illustrated; in the attic, further objects are arranged by theme.
On the upper floors the old techniques of the shoemaker, tailor, carpenter and weaver can be experienced, and numerous tools recall the hard work of farming. On the ground floor, through a separate entrance, an almost completely furnished blacksmith's workshop can be visited. It recalls the nail smithies that worked along the Salvesenbach in the 19th century, making nails, scythes and weapons using water power.
The former stable serves as a museum gallery where local artists exhibit in summer; in winter nativity scenes are shown there. At events, "Ziachkiachln" are baked in the kitchen over an open fire according to old recipes. The house is run by the Kultur- und Museumsverein Tarrenz.
