About the museum
As early as 1981 there were plans for a museum on the valley floor. After the association was founded, a few idealists began collecting objects. In 1987, the opportunity unexpectedly arose to take over an old farmhouse that the municipality of Tannheim had inherited from a brother and sister. The municipality makes the house in the district of Kienzen, known by the house name "Stoffler", available to the museum association. After countless hours of voluntary work, the Heimatmuseum Tannheimer Tal was officially opened on 30 September 1990.
The building is a typical Alemannic central-corridor house in which the dwelling and farm section are united under a steep shingle roof. On display are a parlour, a small dairy and cheese-making room with equipment for cheese production in the village and on the alpine pastures, the parents' bedroom "s'Gade", and painted furniture from the children's and farmhands' chambers.
On the upper floor, a music room is dedicated to the teacher and choirmaster Anton Peterlunger, alongside instruments, costumes for musicians, and collections of photographs and postcards. The "Schulwinkel" (school corner) shows furnishings of the Zöblen primary school, a small weaving room, a hunting room, and on the threshing floor the workshops of a shoemaker, joiner, carpenter, turner, shingle maker, plasterer and watchmaker. Everything is based on loans and donations from the valley's residents and is looked after by volunteers.
