About the museum
As early as the 1970s there were plans for a museum on the Graz vehicle brand Puch, but these long failed for lack of premises and money. Only in 2003, when Graz was European Capital of Culture, did a private association open the Johann Puch Museum, initially in a former sales pavilion.
Since 2012 the exhibition has been housed in Hall P on Puchstraße, a listed industrial hall dating from 1912 on the site of the first Graz Puch factory. It is regarded as the last authentic hall of this factory, where from 1889 Johann Puch had bicycles and later motorcycles, cars and mopeds built.
On around 2,900 square metres the association shows about 2,500 exhibits, including several hundred vehicles: bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles and cars from roughly a century and a half of Graz vehicle building, supplemented by wooden and sectional models, advertising posters, photos and documents. The show ranges from the Puch Voiturette of 1906 and the Puch 500 to off-road vehicles such as the Haflinger, Pinzgauer and Puch G.
