About the museum
The Offene Kulturhaus, or OK for short, is the center for contemporary art of the OÖ Landes-Kultur GmbH in Linz's city center. It occupies the former Ursuline school building, which was built in the 1930s based on plans by Matthäus Schlager. After the order handed the property over to the State of Upper Austria, it was converted into a cultural center for the region.
In the 1990s the building was gradually renovated and adapted for exhibition and production purposes; Riepl Riepl Architekten added, among other things, an exhibition deck on the roof. Since its reopening in 1998, the OK has seen itself as a place where emerging and established artists can develop and present new work. The focus is on media art and engagement with socio-political themes.
The rooms range from classic classrooms to a metal exhibition space high above the city. The program consists of changing exhibitions, accompanied by symposia, art education and music events. The OK Platz complex also includes an arthouse cinema and a café bar as partners.
