About the museum

The Blons Doll Museum opened in 1997 and was the first museum of its kind in Vorarlberg. It was established in the small Walser village of Blons in the Großes Walsertal valley and is run by a private operator. Today it also goes by the name Spielzeugmuseum Blons (Blons Toy Museum).

The core of the collection is dolls and toys from the period between 1850 and 1950. The oldest pieces date from around 1860. They include dolls made of wood, porcelain, celluloid, fabric and tin, as well as dollhouses, toy kitchens, toy grocery stores, teddy bears, board games, children's books and Kasperl puppet theaters. A focus is on the folk costume dolls made by the Baitz company.

The collection continues to grow, because many Vorarlberg families have given their old toys to the museum. As a result, a house has emerged that illustrates the childhood of earlier generations in the everyday life of the region.
