About the museum

The Stadtmuseum Bludenz has been housed in the Upper Gate (Oberes Tor) since 1922, a gatehouse that still recalls the town's former fortifications. Well into the 21st century, the exhibition followed the concept of a "universal museum in miniature" developed by Alfons Leuprecht around 1920.

From 2019, the presentation was redesigned with support from the EU funding programme LEADER. It draws on the museum's collection and focuses on the town's history in the Middle Ages and the early modern period as well as the former function of the Upper Gate; new findings on the building's architectural history have also been incorporated.

The museum is open only in the warmer months and is closed in winter. An audio guide in German and English is available for download.
