About the museum
The Walsermuseum in Riezlern has existed since 1963 and shows the culture and everyday life of the Walser people in the Kleinwalsertal. Among other things it displayed a Walser parlor with chamber, a kitchen and an alpine hut, which illustrate centuries of life for the valley population. Many objects are loans and donations from the valley, including a large part of the private collection of the Felder family from Riezlern.
The centerpiece is the handwritten, eight-volume folk genealogy of the Kleinwalsertal by Alfons Köberle, which records the families of the valley from 1600 to 1950.
The museum has been closed for several years. After a participation process with the population (2016/17), the municipality of Mittelberg wanted to convert the house into a contemporary museum. After the basic decision in 2018 and further decisions in 2019, the project was put on hold when a referendum was demanded. According to the available sources, no new opening date exists. As a substitute, the municipality at times showed changing exhibitions in the Sternpassage opposite.
