About the museum

Because there was not enough space at the Erdberg museum grounds, the Wiener Tramwaymuseum (WTM), as owner of the vehicles, looked for another depot for the cars and spare parts not on display. It found one in the former Semperit works in Traiskirchen, today's Gewerbepark: the WTM rented a hall with a rail connection to the Wiener Lokalbahn and adapted it with four large hall doors for eight tracks. The museum depot has existed there since 2014.

The depot holds tram motor cars and trailers from various eras, from the early 20th century to the ULF test vehicle, the first Ultra Low Floor articulated motor car with the lowest entry height in the world. There is also a historic Viennese trolleybus with trailer. Visitors can take a seat in the cars, look into the controller and motor, and see how the vehicles are restored so that they can later be shown at the museum in Erdberg.

The depot is run by the association Wiener Tramwaymuseum, whose collection was founded in 1966 by Helmut Portele. It is open only on selected days; groups can visit it by prior arrangement.
