About the museum
The fabric of the Bergerhaus on Schrannenplatz in the centre of Gumpoldskirchen dates back to the 16th century. Today it is a cultural venue of the market municipality: in the former living quarters, the Galerie Bergerhaus shows exhibitions of contemporary art from March to November with free admission, and the house is home to the tourist office with the local wine library.
The wine-growing museum is housed in one of the oldest wine cellars of the house. It shows cellar and viticulture equipment, with a fully preserved wooden lever press from the 16th century as its centrepiece, along with a wine collection that goes back to the 1940s and documents the local varieties Zierfandler and Rotgipfler. The museum suits a village whose viticulture has been documented since a deed of 1140 and which is known for its Königswein.
