About the museum
Museum Den Aker occupies a large part of the Oranjerie in the municipal park of Lint, the former winter garden of the castle where orange trees and other exotic plants spent the winter. The museum opened on 12 March 1994 during the annual meeting of the Antwerp district of the Verbond voor Heemkunde (Flemish federation of local history societies). In February 2009 it was recognised as a local history museum of the province of Antwerp and of the Antwerp district. It is managed by the Heemkundige Kring Eugeen Goeyvaerts.
You walk through a village café from 1900, a sweet shop from 1930, a vaulted little cellar, a parlour, a classroom from the period 1930 to 1950, a textile room and a room about the history of Lint and of the parish. The eye-catcher in the café is the restored Weber Unika organ piano from 1927. The contents of the café come from Lint’s small cafés; before the First World War Lint had more than thirty cafés and two breweries.
Outside the building you can enter the house chapel, furnished with liturgical objects from Lint as if the Second Vatican Council were still to begin.
