About the museum
The Benedictine Monastery in Hvar has stood on this site since 1664, originally within the residential complex of the poet Hanibal Lucić (1485–1553), which his daughter-in-law Julija bequeathed to the Benedictine nuns in her will in 1591. Next to the monastery stands the 17th-century Baroque church of St Anthony the Abbot and St John the Baptist.
The monastery houses a collection of artworks and lace made from agave fibres, which the nuns have made since the 19th century. Hvar agave lace is inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
