About the museum
JGL Muzej farmacije opened to the public on 22 October 2020 in Užarska Street, in the historic centre of Rijeka near the Korzo. It was founded by the pharmaceutical company Jadran-Galenski laboratorij d.d. in cooperation with the City of Rijeka and the Rijeka City Museum, as its branch. It is entered in the Register of Museums of the Republic of Croatia and is one of only three Croatian museums whose founders are private legal or natural persons.
The museum aims to promote pharmacy as part of health and cultural identity and to preserve and present materials on the history of pharmacy in Rijeka and Croatia. Its particular task is education, above all of pupils of pharmacy schools and pharmacy students, but also of all other visitors.
The permanent exhibition is divided into ten sections. It comprises a pharmacy laboratory, a pharmacist’s office with a collection of pharmacopoeias, the dispensary of a historic pharmacy from the first half of the 20th century, a section on Rijeka’s pharmaceutical companies and a zone of medicinal plants. In the outdoor area there is a medicinal herb garden. Multimedia content and augmented reality are available via a tablet, which also serves as an audio guide.
