About the museum
The Muzej grada Pregrade is one of the youngest museums in north-western Croatia. It is housed in the restored building of the former elementary school in the town centre, completed in 1908. The permanent display with the numismatic and mining collections opened on 22 November 2007, and the display of the pharmacy collection on 6 April 2008. The permanent display comprises 639 objects in total.
The numismatic collection was built up over many years by Zlatko Dragutin Tudjina and contains plaster casts, enlarged matrices, and matrices for striking gold and silver coins with the portraits of six notable Croats – King Tomislav, Alojzije Stepinac, Stjepan Radić, Marko Marulić, Juraj Šeper and Nikola Tavelić – as well as minted silver coins. The mining collection comes from the same donor, whose family owned a mine until 1945; alongside photographs of the mine and mining objects, the geological past of Pregrada is also presented.
The Thierry pharmacy collection presents the activities of the family that founded the first pharmaceutical company in south-eastern Europe. On 9 November 1892 the pharmacist Adolf pl. Thierry de Chateauvieux received a concession to run a pharmacy in Pregrada.
