About the museum
The Juneževa domačija (Junež Farmstead) lies at the foot of the southern slope of the 362-metre-high Janina, on the edge of the former village of Tržišče, which is now part of Rogaška Slatina. Archival documents show that it has been owned by the Junež family since the end of the 18th century; the present buildings date from the beginning of the 19th century.
The farmstead consists of a residential house with a black kitchen, a farm building, a partly enclosed double hayrack barn (kozolec doplar) and an apiary. The buildings stand on a levelled terrace in the middle of the hamlet, and the apiary is somewhat lower down the slope. The fields and forest belonging to it lie in the immediate surroundings; some fields are still regularly cultivated, and the grain is used for baking at workshops, while the straw is used for repairing thatched roofs.
The farmstead is one of the few areas that have kept their original land division, which makes it a valuable complement to the young spa town. Visitors can tour it by prior arrangement, relive old customs and taste homemade delicacies from the bread oven. Workshops and literary and social evenings are held at the farmstead within the association, and at different times of the year it presents seasonal farm work, for example home pig slaughter, wood chopping and corn husking.
