About the museum

Alternátor is a science centre in Třebíč run by the association EKOBIOENERGO z.s. It emphasises combining tradition with fun and creative activity, and aims to offer pleasant time spent and new useful information to children and adults. The exhibitions are intended for school classes of all levels, families with children and senior citizens.

The centre has several parts. The ground floor houses the exhibition Energie minulosti (Energy of the Past), which recalls the history of the former BOPO shoe factory site and the production of footwear, and lets visitors try out how a steam engine worked. On the first floor, visitors learn about the production and distribution of electricity and the operation of a heating plant. The third floor has an exhibition on space and spaceflight, and a hall with a projection sphere.

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, Alternátor offers temporary exhibitions, accompanying events and educational programmes for nursery, primary and secondary schools.
