About the museum

The Pamětní síň Antonína Kaliny is housed in a building in the Jewish quarter of Třebíč, not far from the Zadní synagoga, and is run by the Městské kulturní středisko Třebíč. It opened on 17 February 2017, on the 115th anniversary of Kalina's birth. During the Second World War, Antonín Kalina, a native of Třebíč, saved more than nine hundred mostly Jewish boys in the Buchenwald concentration camp; in 2012 he was awarded the title Righteous Among the Nations.

Two years later the exhibition The Children of Antonín Kalina was added. It tells the stories of seven rescued boys, several of whom later became notable personalities, and of the doctor Jindřich Flusser, a close associate of Kalina. The central exhibit is a metal Tree of Life bearing the names of all the rescued boys, made by students of a secondary school in Třebíč.
