About the museum
The museum is in municipal house No. 1 in the centre of Heraltice, which stands on the site of a 13th-century fortified manor. This manor house was built at the end of the 18th century by the lords of Brtnice and was used for farming; later it housed a school, small municipal flats and a school kitchen. The western part of the house was renovated by volunteer firefighters from December 2001 to June 2004; 43 firefighters took part and worked more than 3,000 hours.
The museum opened on 3 July 2004, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in Heraltice. In 2013–2014 an extension was built, enlarging the exhibition spaces, and it opened on 28 June 2014. The premises also include a large meeting room with video projection facilities.
The core of the collection consists of hand pumps from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and motor pumps from the 1940s, together with period equipment. The most interesting exhibits include a rotary ladder from 1896, a Steyr transport vehicle from the 1940s and several pieces that cannot be seen elsewhere, for example an electric pump from 1930.
