About the museum
The Plasy monastery complex was never fully completed, and therefore serves as a living textbook of building history. The idea of setting up a branch in Plasy arose about ten years before the centre opened; the plan was to display building construction in Plasy together with a study storage and a materiatéka (a collection of building materials), which would bring the building culture of the past closer to visitors.
Between 2009 and 2015, with support from EU funds, two derelict farm buildings of the former monastery, the brewery and the farmyard, were restored. The centre opened on 29 September 2015, and the collection of building construction, built up since 1908, thus gained its own presentation and education space. The project received several awards, among them the Gloria Musaealis Award 2015.
The former brewery houses an exhibition on building construction, with historical building elements, materials and structures, and a construction playground for children. The farmyard contains period-equipped workshops, and in the oldest part of the complex there is an exhibition on building-historical surveys. The centre organises exhibitions, public events and professional conferences, and places great emphasis on education, from the youngest children to students of vocational schools.
